A Christmas play happens to be a traditional and enjoyable way of celebrating the wonderful holiday of Christmas that would be a wonderful and actually simple thing to organize and carry out. Start planning your Christmas play now and you will have plenty of time when it comes to Christmas to relax a little more and enjoy the season. Things to consider now are the script that you will use, what the set will look like, where you will produce the play, and who will be in your cast. Starting now will give you the time you need to completely pull your play together whereas if you start too late you will not have enough time to put on your play.
What you need now is a simple script and story to be the base of your Christmas play. The most common Christmas play has got to be the nativity and it is very traditional, too, so doing it is not a bad idea. But there are a lot of Christmas stories that may work better for your Christmas play. Maybe you want to do the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens or How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. Any story you wish to portray should be on your list but this is the first step and until you choose and write a script you can't really move on to the other parts of your Christmas play.
Once your script is chosen, you need to choose a cast for your Christmas play. Auditions are usually a good way to do this. If you hold auditions make sure you educate those people beforehand on what the play and schedule will be like. When you are choosing the cast make sure to have a flexible cast for the Christmas play because those are the easiest to work with. Choosing your cast effects the whole Christmas play so choose wisely.
On to the set, another very important part of a Christmas play. You should have a set designer or you could just have your cast work on the set as well. The best set would be a simple interior set. Your Christmas play set doesn't need to be huge or complicated or even too detailed. It depends on the mood you want to set and the amount of creativity you want your Christmas play audience to use.
This Christmas play is going to be a hit! You want to make sure to practice enough with the cast so they have a good feel for their parts and know exactly what the blocking is. The more often you practice the better your cast will be. Now is when having a flexible cast comes in handy. Flexible casts will be able to meet more often and therefore more effectively for your Christmas play. You will want all of your cast there for all of the rehearsals so your Christmas play will be perfectly prepared for the performance. As Christmas time gets closer you will need to gather an audience to watch your Christmas play so advertising is also important.
Hard work and dedication is what will make this Christmas play a success and wonderful Christmas experience for you, your cast, and your audience. It can be so much fun and it is a great way to celebrate the Christmas season.
