Starting to train your four-legged friend from a young age is essential. The first few months of his life will be when you actually are going to have the maximum impact on him; this is when he or she is shaped into the dog he is going to become when he's all grown up.

There are many different ways to train a dog. Much like all human beings learn differently, all dogs learn in different ways. It is best to research some unique training styles to see which ones work best for your particular dog. When in doubt, talk to a professional and acquire his or her opinion or look for expert training services.

Watch your demeanor while you're training your four-legged friend. You must remain calm, but assertive at all times. Don't show anger or raise your voice. If you do this, your four-legged friend will require you to shout commands to be able to follow them, if it is how he's trained.

To teach your dog how to come requires only the simplest of techniques but a great deal of repetition. The easiest way to get him to come is have a toy in one hand and a treat in the other, when you are in the house simply walk away from him, hold out the toy and call him to you, whenever he comes over give him a treat, always use the command for come that you're planning to use in the future. Doing this several times a day is an effective approach to teach him, but don't forget to have plenty of long breaks so he doesn't lose interest and stop enjoying it, and don't forget about the treats!

You should enforce any command you give when training your dog. Giving a command that you're not confident in or otherwise not willing to follow through with decreases your part as leader. Don't ask, beg or scream. Offer firm commands in a dominant tone and expect the dog to give the proper behavior. Your four-legged friend will view you as a true leader when you follow-through.

Getting him to sit down might be a little bit trickier however merely requires basic dog training. When you've mastered the come command call him to you, position your palm on the end of his backside and state "sit" while gently pushing down on his backside, as soon as he sits his butt down give him a treat and lots of praise. If you need him to sit down for a longer time simply delay giving him the treat along with the praise, get him to sit, but take some time bending down to him and feeding him his tidbits.
