The nurses are professionals who have vital roles in the delivery of proper health care. They collaborate with other health professionals to treat patients with different medical conditions. They also serve as educators as they teach the sick on what they need to do and what to avoid so that complications will not be experienced. However, their type of work also puts their life at risk most especially that they deal with people from all walks of life.

In a day, nurses deal with different people. Some they know but most of them are total strangers. Despite the security measures of the hospital, there are still reports of injuries and physical harm especially for the staff who deals with patients like those who are intoxicated with alcohol or drug addicts who seem to be physically abusive. The fact that nurses meet with different personalities is just one reason why there is a need for self protection.

Moreover, the hospital provides services 24 hours which requires the workers most especially the nursing staff to do shifting of duties. Some would be assigned during the day while others need to go on duty at night. Because of this, while going to the hospital or walking home from the hospital, either way, both situations need you to equip yourself with best self defense most especially if you will be going home by yourself at night.

One of the very effective self defense methods that you might want to consider especially with the risks of your work is learning martial arts. You can join classes and training during your spare time so that you will be able to deal with danger using what you have learned. You can choose from different forms and match it with your physical built and qualities. For instance, there are specific techniques for nurses who are quite short when it comes to height.

Aside from that, different self defense devices in the market today are designed most especially for nurses who will be working late at night and dealing with all sorts of people. You can have a mini stun gun where you can place in the pocket of your uniform. Sometimes the crackling sound of the volts of electricity is enough to scare someone who wants to attack you. You can ask whether it is allowed in the hospital premises.

Lastly, as a nurse you must be keen in your observation. You must be able to understand whether the situation is leading into something very dangerous. That is why if you feel that you are already in a risky moment then you can grab anything that you can get. You can use your pen or even your keys. Use your own initiative especially if you have not learned any martial arts or you have no device in hand.

These are the effective and best self defense methods that you can use especially if you work as a nurse. You must not only think of the safety and welfare of your patients but you must also think of your own protection as well.
