Breast Augmentation is a surgery that improves a woman's physique and can give her a confidence booster. This article is for patients who have had breast augmentation surgery, whether you have saline breast implants, silicone gel filled breast implant, if you've had breast reconstruction that included breast augmentation, get breast implants, or any other cosmetic breast implants. How does a breast augmentation go wrong? Here are 9 things you should be aware of:
1) Do you feel tightening or hardening in or around your breast implants and breast augmentation surgery area? If so, capsular-contracture could be the cause. This means that there is a build up of scar tissue around the breast implants which puts pressure on the breast implants and causes hardening in the breast tissue and breast augmentation area.
2) Deflation of the breast augmentation. This happens when there is a leak or ruptured breast implant. Breast augmentation deflation can be caused by external agents. Breast Augmentation surgery makes women have the same size breast on each side so if you notice any asymmetry or unevenness between each breast, this could be a sign of breast implants deflation. Saline breast implants fluid leaks shouldn't cause a reaction in the body of women since the saline is the same kind of fluid that is in your body. But, if your breast augmentation surgery was for silicone breast implants, you should call your plastic surgeon immediately! Deflation of a saline breast implant could cause capsular-contractures as bodily inflammation reacting to the foreign fluids.
3) If your body temperature increases or if you experience chills, pain, swelling, redness (especially around the site of your breast augmentation) this could be a sign of infection. In this case, call your plastic surgeon immediately so before you breast augmentation or surgery infection grow into a more serious problem like sepsis which is a blood infection.
4) Occasionally a saline breast implant will have rippling because of the saline breast implant shifting. The rippling effect is quite visible and unattractive if it occurs on the upper portion of the breast augmentation. A low-cut blouse would show the saline breast implant ripples which can be very disconcerting to women who have had a breast augmentation.
5) If women who have had breast augmentation surgery experience any breast pain, they should call their plastic surgeon so they can rule out problems that may be more serious. Capsular contractures or infection can be the cause of breast pain after successful breast augmentation surgery and healing. In this case the breast augmentation may have to be reversed and breast implants removed or replaced.
6) Numbness of nipples is a concern for breast augmentation patients since breast augmentation surgery requires incisions. Making incisions on and around the breast not only breaks the skin and some blood vessels but there is the risk of damaging nerve endings which would create numb nipples.
7) Fluid discharge from the breast should be reported to your plastic surgeon.
8) If you have itchiness on your breast augmentation area, especially for silicone breast implant patients, this may mean that you have an allergic reaction to the breast implant.
9) Darkening of breast tissue and a nasty smell would mean that you have tissue death or Necrosis.
