Ever tested your intelligence? Honestly, the best way to do so is to take up challenges. Your mental strength can be tested on grounds of physical, as well as intellectual challenges. To test your physical endurance, there are various sports. For instance, pitching machines prepare you for batting in baseball. You can set a pitching machine to practice your batting skills without anyone’s assistance. However, if you want to see how smart you are, then grab some of your friends and challenge them at Scrabble.

This classic word game is truly a fun filled experience every time you challenge someone. It is a board game played on lettered tiles to form interlocking words. Points are scored in doubles or triples and the one with the highest points wins the game. But no matter who the winner is, the game is enjoyed equally by all players. For all those who have not had the chance to play Scrabble yet, here are some basics.

• To begin with the game, all players have to sit around an empty board. You can mutually agree on the use of a dictionary if it is a challenge.

• Next you have to place all alphabet tiles face down and shuffle them. To decide who goes first, everyone has to draw one tile each. If a person has a tile with the letter closest to A then that person goes first. Every player gets his or her turn and the game proceeds in clockwise direction.

• Each player has to draw seven tiles and place them on their racks. Obviously, every player has to do this on his or her own turn.

• Then the first player has to think what words he or she can make by adding a few more letters. The word should be assembled in a way that it covers the center square. Or the player at least tries to reach the center square marked by a star. This will give the player a double score than he or she can have otherwise.

• The letters can be placed either horizontally or vertically, but the diagonal formation of words will not yield any points.

• After each turn, every player draws tiles from the bag such that there are always seven tiles in his or her rack.

•The score is based on the word formation. You can even get more points if your tile covers a bonus square in any of your turns.

•Continue the game and make words alternatively upon your turn. Do not forget to note the score after each turn.

•You have the freedom to make words, but the rule forbids you to use abbreviations or the words that have a hyphen or apostrophe. Apart from that, all other words are acceptable.

• If you are able to get the highest score, you will be the winner. Precisely, the game ends when all tiles have been used. In case there are some remaining tiles that cannot be placed on the board, then you have to subtract their value from your score.

If you think you are clever, a game of Scrabble is what you need to test your intelligence. These basics will surely help you accept any challenge of Scrabble.
