To grease a Toro riding mower you need to follow these steps in order prepare your materials, set the parking brake and take off the key, clean the mower, wipe the fittings and use the grease gun to apply grease, apply grease on the grease fitting inside the steering wheel, apply grease on the fitting near the pivot point of the idler pulley, use the ratchet and socket to take off the spindle cove.

Toro is a leading brand of riding lawnmowers. One of the reasons behind the popularity of Toro mowers is that they require only routine maintenance. Lubricating the idler bearings, spindle bearings and steering controls is a particularly important maintenance task for owners of Toro mowers. It is adequate to lubricate these parts for each use with a lithium compound. These are the steps that you must follow while greasing your Toro riding mower:

Prepare your materials

When you greased your Toro lawnmower, make sure you gather up lithium grease, a grease gun, rags, a ratchet and socket.

Set the parking brake and take off the key

To prevent the mower from rolling off or to keep it from inadvertently starting and causing any accidents, set the parking brake and be sure to remove its key.

Clean the mower

It is important to clean the lawnmower after every use and before lubricating the components previously mentioned. Regularly cleaning the Toro mower will prevent a build up of dirt, rust and contaminants.

After the fittings have been wiped off, you simply apply grease via the grease gun

Find the axle grease fittings on the front axle. Near the front of your mower is an axle barrel into which these fittings can be screwed or tapped. Clean off the fittings with a cloth to get rid of all debris and grit. Once you have wiped down the fittings, give every fitting an application with the grease gun. Work the lever until grease oozes out from the seals.

Grease the grease fitting, it is located inside the steering wheel

Rotate the automobile wheel to the right and put grease on the grease part. It is located within the right hand, forward wheel. Apply an additional three or four strokes until grease extrudes from the seals. Move the wheel in the other direction and then take the grease gun and do the same thing.

Give an application of grease to the fitting that is closest to the fulcrum of the idler pulley

Slowly release the handle and lower the mower s deck. Before you begin, make certain the deck is on the lowest setting. Check the top of your mower deck to locate your idler pulley. The grease fitting is found exactly above the pivot point of the idler. Refurbish the part adjustment in advance before applying the grease gun to create less spillage of grease.

Remove the spindle covers using a ratchet and socket

The spindle bearings are protected by the covers on both sides of the deck. In addition, they enclose the grease fitting components. Remove all the covers and put them away carefully so they don t get lost, and use a ratchet and socket to do this.

Clean the grease fitting of the bearing spindles and apply grease

There you will find grease fittings it is important to clean them before lubing otherwise your spindle bearings may go out. Attach the grease gun and pump three or four times for each fitting. You should turn the spindle by hand at least twice, perhaps three times, and then apply 3 shots of grease.

Secure the covers tightly, then operate the mowing machine for a few minutes

Replacing and tightening the spindle covers is accomplished with the ratchet and socket. Begin to operate the lawnmower with the blades engaged for several minutes. By doing this, it allows the grease to work into the spindle bearings.

Toro lawnmowers are renown for their advanced durability. Proper maintenance, servicing and necessary repairs will maximize the service life of your equipment.
