Gardening can be an enjoyable activity with many benefits to your life. Whether you choose to grow flowers, vegetables or ornamental plants, many find that nurturing and tending to a garden brings such a rewarding feeling and sense of accomplishment. The tips in this article will help you get the most from your garden.

Plan your garden, and plant with fall colors in mind. It's not necessary to think this way, however. The brightest season of the year when it comes to foliage is fall. You can find beautiful maple and beech trees in many different fall colors. Some very good shrubs to choose are barberry, hydrangea, and cotoneaster, which is a member of the rose family.

You do not need store-bought chemical treatments for plant mildew. Rather, you should mix a bit of baking soda with a small quantity of liquid soap in water. Use a spray bottle to apply to your plants weekly until the issue clears up. Your plants will not be harmed by the baking soda, but the mildew will definitely not like it!

If you want a strange, yet successful, green answer to getting rid of weeds, boil them to death. Boiling water is a safe herbicide which won't damage your garden or your body. Just pour out the water on the weeds being careful to avoid any nearby plants. If you pour the water near your plants, it will kill the roots.

Plant trees with beautifying fall fruit. Generally, fall color is most associated with foliage colors, but there are numerous trees that also produce decorative fruits. These berries can be a wide array of colors from deep red to yellow, they can also be there in the winter months to offer some color! Some berries to consider are crabapples, holly and chokeberry.

Maximize the use of fall color. A lot of shrubs, vines and trees will transform your garden into a colorful firework during the fall. The plants change color in this way because they're no longer producing chlorophyll, and the colors that were being hidden by green start to shine through. You should be sure that your plants recieve adequate sunlight. Aim to boost their sunlight during the afternoon, when the sun peaks. Maple, Boston ivy, chestnut, barberry and burning bush are some really good choices.

Maximize the use of fall color. Fall plants really provide a spark of vibrant color to any garden. With so many different shrubs and tree varieties to choose from, you can add a lot of color to your garden around the autumn months. The plants change color in this way because they're no longer producing chlorophyll, and the colors that were being hidden by green start to shine through. Place these types of plant in a location which gets plenty of sun, especially after noon. Among the more popular plants chosen for their Fall colors are chestnut, maple, and burning bush.

Be vigilant about keeping moisture off your plants. Moisture on the surfaces of your plants is an invitation to pests and illness. Fungi is very common. To control fungi, use a fungicide spray on the area before you notice any problems.

Your first and best line of defense against pests is having healthy soil. Healthy and well-nourished plants will be hardier and therefore better able to prevent pests from taking hold. Start your garden off with a high-quality soil that you can enrich over time.

Gardening, as you can see, is an awesome way to grow your own delicious food. Making meals with your own fresh produce will mean dining memories you are proud of. Practice the tips you've read here to enhance your experience and grow an amazing garden!
