You can certainly create a thriving and gorgeous garden without purchasing a bunch of equipment but the right gardening tools will definitely make the job easier. Obviously you can use your hands for digging holes but why bother when you can use your garden trowel to do it for you. The fact is that the right tools are essential no matter what task you want to accomplish.

If you are new to gardening, deciding which tools to use can be hard. These are just a few of the tools that every gardener should have if he or she wants to grow a marvelous garden.

Having a garden spade in your toolbox is essential if your garden is going to contain smaller and more delicate plants and flowers. Spades can help you uproot pesky weeds. Spades are also good for helping you clear things away from your plants without damaging their bases. Gardeners can also use spades for help with planting seeds. Gardeners probably won't need to use their spades all the time-they are more for those special occasions when you need to garden without wanting to worry about the tensile strength of your plants. The spade is a versatile tool that can help with a variety of gardening tasks; it saves you time and energy!

Kneelers are also a good idea. Gardening is mostly done close to the ground so you will spend a lot of time balancing on your hands and knees. Garden kneelers can easily be constructed from spare pieces of Styrofoam or other cushy materials-anything to provide a soft barrier between your knees and the ground. Gardening mats are also available for purchase if you don't want to make your own. Many gardeners protect their knees form wear and tear by using kneelers or garden mats. Kneelers and mats can also help keep your clothing looking fairly nice while you garden.

You need a big rake. Use a garden rake on smaller patches of land. For gardeners who tend large gardens, however, a big rake is a necessity. Rakes are for more than ridding your yard of tree leaves. When you are prepping for planting use your big rake to smooth down the soil as well as to turn it to increase the air that moves within it. Gardeners can also use the flat side of a big rake to smooth down the tops of their gardens. Leaf rakes are usually made from plastic. Garden rakes (even those that are full sized) are made from metal.

Gardening is thought to be a very relaxing activity. Playing in the dirt is something that many people report as being calming and soothing. Many gardeners start out by using only their hands. Using gardening tools instead of one's hands doesn't feel so awkward after a while. After some time you will be surprised to find that using gardening tools is so ingrained that you don't even need to think about it anymore. The more time you put into your garden the easier it will be to use gardening tools. Before you know what has happened to you, gardening will begin to feel fun!
