Cooking is an art that many people enjoy. Many people aspire to be the next Emeril Lagasse or Julia Child in their kitchens, but lack the skills and knowledge. The following article will provide you with a myriad of cooking tips and tricks that will get you on the road to being as good as any top chef.

Stop grabbing breakfast out and whip up a quick breakfast sandwich at home to save money. To make the perfect round egg for topping a bagel or muffin, cut both the top and bottom off a tuna can and use it as a mold in the skillet while cooking your egg. You can wash and reuse your mold over and over again.

When you are storing leftovers make sure that you put them away as soon as possible to inhibit bacteria growth. You should always cover them tightly as well. This not only ensures health but it also will keep your leftovers fresher for a longer period of time. Leftovers are great!

Wash fruits and vegetables even those whose skin you don't eat. For foods like melons, avocados, and other foods that you cut into, it is important to wash the skin before cutting. Any bacteria and dirt on the skin can attach to your knife and be transferred onto the edible portion of the food.

To clean your hands after cooking a recipe that includes garlic, vigorously rub your hands on your stainless steel sink or counter. Do this for 30 seconds to one minute, and then wash your hands. This will remove garlic odor from your fingers, and it will be as if you'd never touched it.

If are making a salsa or guacamole with raw onions, and it is not going to be eaten until later, make sure that you rinse the onions with cold water after dicing them, and then blot them dry. The sulfurous gas from raw onions can ruin the freshness of the food, so it's important to wash it away before mixing the onions with the other ingredients.

To minimize freezer burn when freezing foods, place them in a zip-top freezer bag and close it most of the way, and then insert a drinking straw through the small opening. Squeeze out as much air as possible, and suck the rest out through the straw, pinching the bag the rest of the way closed when the air is gone. Less air exposure in the bag means fresher, freezer-burn-free foods when you are ready to defrost them.

Even if you're not an experienced chef, cooking your own meals is easy to do. Anyone can be a great cook, and if you'd like to be one too, the advice provided here will help you to do it.
