As most people know, the brain is a very fragile part of the body so any injury to this area can be potentially life threatening if the brain is seriously affected. Once the person’s brain is damaged they may suffer long term problems as well as a range of physical and mental debilitating issues.

If you have been unfortunate enough to suffer a head injury that was not in fact your fault you could be entitled to make a head injury compensation claim. The success of your head injury claim will depend on a range of issues which include how serious the injury was and what type of head injury was sustained. Proving the other party was in fact at fault is a critical factor in pursuing a head injury claim and being awarded compensation.

Types of Head Injury
Shielding your head is one of the most important things to consider when looking after your own health and safety as the chances are that there will a lot more serious permanent results if your head is injured than any other body part. This is why there is such a range of protective head gear available for different situations from cycling, to construction sites and motorcycling.

The serious nature and results of the head injury depend on the type of accident which caused it, from mild concussions to serious and fatal brain damage. Symptoms include tiredness, loss of memory, and lack of concentration or more serious symptoms such as permanent physical or mental disability.

Road Accident Injuries
A large majority of head injury claims stem from road accidents where the other driver involved was to blame and therefore can be claimed against.

A car accident always carries with it, a high risk of head injury due to the forceful impact and the way this can jolt the neck and head forward in an unpredictable manner. The head can often hit the airbag or other parts of the car’s interior. There is no way of actually telling how this impact will affect the brains delicate internal structure.

At first there may not seem to be much/if any obvious damage but the high force of a car accidents impact can lead to problems in the future such as if the brain was damaged internally in a less obvious place.

Slips, Trips and Fall Injuries
Falling or slipping accidentally on a slippery or wet surface, or because of an unanticipated obstruction could lead to a head injury. Broken paving stones or wet supermarket floors are two common circumstances that often lead to a winning head injury compensation claim.

Clinical Negligence Injuries
Even though a hospital is full of trained doctors whose job is to get you back to health, things can still go wrong and gross medical negligence can lead to a brain or head injury. In cases like this it may be possible to make a successful head injury claim against the private or public hospital involved.

Violent Assault Injuries
Sadly some head injuries come as a result of a violent act carried out deliberately. With all accidents, any injuries caused by a violent assault to the head are going to be far more serious than assaults to any other parts of the body due to the skull and brains complex fragile structure.

Alkers Solicitors are a law firm made up of experienced head injury solicitors who could help you win the head injury compensation you are owed for your injuries.
