Everyone makes mistakes, when this happens in the early stages of gardening; make sure to hang in there to appreciate the final result. The better you plan ahead with your garden and learn how to avoid common errors, the better your results will be. Gardening is not a complex ordeal, you just need to think about the different types of things your plants will need; like the size of the growing area, light and water. Within this article you will be clued in on some of the foreseeable difficulties you could endure with your garden; hence, arming you with the knowledge you need to avoid them.

When you get ready to have a garden, other than having the appropriate soil, seeds and garden tools, you really need to have an appropriate attitude for the undertaking. Quite a few people begin their garden without really thinking it through and as a result they nonchalantly toss seeds around their yard. This is a recipe for failure, or at best very limited success. You need to take sunlight and proper irrigation into consideration, when selecting your location. Furthermore, you should not start out with a plan that is too determined. You can take advantage of the Internet, gardening shows or magazines if you want ideas for your garden, although you should not be expecting any awards or to show up in the local newspaper for your first garden. As with anything, there is a learning curve with gardening, so take it step by step and just focus on the basics at first. A very common mistake made by new gardeners is not planting at the right depth. This particular issue can make or break your project. You may have top notch planting medium and fertilizer; however if you fail to plant your seed at the required depth, it will not thrive. Your young seed will be provided nutrients from the soil when it is planted correctly. If you have planted your seed to far down it may not get adequate light and may drown in too much water. In general, the drier the soil and the local climate is, the deeper you should plant your seeds. The bigger the actual seed is; the further down it will need to go. Always go by the recommended planting instructions when they are available.

Sunlight is another important aspect to consider. Each plant has different needs. This information is easy to find out, and each plant, once you know the requirements, can then be grown in your garden. Six hours is the general rule for most vegetables though it may vary. The amount of sunlight that your garden area will receive needs to be considered before planting any vegetable. If you don't have much sun, look for plants that thrive in the shade. You also have to be careful about overexposing plants to the sun. You can also use what is called "reflected sunlight" which might be easier on your plants. Once you recognize them, most bloopers in the garden are fairly easy to steer clear of. Lack of research prior to planting is often the reason that inexperienced gardeners make mistakes. Very often, the information you need is written right on the packet of seeds you bought. Providing you do your research when you want to know something, you should not have too many gaffes.
